Baker for Life | The Story of a Phenomenal Homemaker

Starting a business, no matter who you are, comes with particular challenges. Even though we would like to believe that everyone faces the same difficulties while trying to do so, the truth is that some people have it much harder than others, depending on various factors. Women who are homemakers face a more significant challenge than men who want to start a business.

We spoke to Mrs. Monica Gandhi, who runs a bakery business from home, about whether she found it hard to balance her home life and work life, to which she replied

“It is challenging, sometimes it is very hectic to do both, but I manage it. I would be able to focus better on my work if I did not have to look after my house at the same time.” – Monica Gandhi

Monica runs a bakery business from home, by taking orders and posting various recipes on her Instagram page and Youtube channel, which have been tagged below.

Starting any form of business requires the founder to be self-driven and passionate about their work. Yet many homemakers have to give up on their dreams due to the added pressure of their home responsibilities. In India, around 48% of homemakers dream of turning their passion into a career

“I love cooking, I’m fond of making new things. It’s my passion. I have been cooking since I was a child. I used to make food for my family. I enjoy baking”

We might expect a woman to face some retaliation from family members when initially wanting to pursue their dreams, yet in today’s society many women are encouraged to do so. Such is the case for Monica.

“My family supported my initiative, my husband, kids, they supported me. My niece helped me for setting up my Youtube channel. I received full support from everyone. No one has discouraged me.”

We asked her about her plans for the future, to which she replied,

“My daughter is in class 12th. When she goes to college I plan to do a professional course on baking, I want to open a cafe. Right now I am busy with duties at home with children.”

Even though it is commendable to overcome all odds to pursue one’s passion, one has to ask if a man would have faced the same issue while wanting to do the same. Even though it is hard for everybody, it is clear that for a homemaker running a business makes them feel like working two jobs at once.

Along with her affable nature, Monica is an inspiration to all homemakers who dream of turning their passion into their career. Her zest and commitment towards baking along with her unrelenting drive for improvement makes her a role model for homemakers everywhere.
